I wanted to follow up on my lessons from TV Shows blog in January with a quick one on lessons from movie and TV cartoons. I recently took my 2 and 3 year old boys to “The Lego Movie”. Big mistake! It was not “G” it was “PG” and I learned an important lesson in parenting. Don’t get me wrong – it was a fun movie – but the violence level was not appropriate for toddlers. That experience aside, many cartoons characters often face a difficult task, have to build a team, forge relationships, set goals, have formidable competitors or enemies, and face challenges. The other reason I like cartoons for leadership role models is that rarely do they have a position or title – they are peer leaders, or reluctantly become leaders through setting the example and their persistence or drive toward a goal. Most importantly they become natural leaders of their group or band of misfits because of their VALUES.
